Essential Piece of Equipment for a Fitness Boot Camp
I’ve tried it without this piece of equipment….and it’s just not the same. I’ve spent a couple of thousand of dollars on exercise equipment, but this item has proven to be the most essential piece of equipment for a fitness boot camp.
Not just for me, but for everyone in my boot camp. The sports timer pretty much controls the entire session, and in a number of ways
Boot camp stays on schedule
Using a timer allows me to keep our sessions to the scheduled hour. I know exactly how long a circuit is and what time it should end. For example, if we haven’t started our second 4×3 circuit by 6:05 adjustments will have to be made.
If we have 45 seconds for an exercise and I repeatedly go over on that time because I’m not looking at my watch, I may have to shorten the entire workout, or even worse, take out an entire circuit to make sure the session ends on time.
Based on the time, I may add a game into the workout to mix things up. These games are also timed.
Numbers don’t lie
In this case, the numbers are on the clock. If I had to use a stopwatch and a whistle (I’ve had to use one when I had a clock malfunction, and it’s not fun) boot campers wouldn’t be able to see how much time we had left for a particular circuit. Furthermore, they sometimes wouldn’t trust the time I was telling them was left.
Trainer focuses on clients
The biggest advantage to having a large display timer is that it allows me to focus on boot campers and not the timer. As long as it is set properly I never even have to look at it (doesn’t stop them from looking at it).
I get to focus on form & technique, effort and further instructing those that may need it. The few seconds I would spend looking at a stopwatch here and there will add up and take away from the experience for boot campers. A lot of them not only want my attention, but need my attention.
Beware of “clock-watchers”!
This is a term I use for people who will break their neck to see how much time is on the clock. Of course I’m just teasing them. This is my way of motivating them to work to the last second.
